With regard to the broad US population, look at books like Wilmot Robertson's The Dispossessed Majority, Joe Bageant's Deer Hunting with Jesus and Rainbow Pie, and Jim Goad's The Redneck Manifesto. It's a world most Pakistanis -- including Pakistanis living in the USA -- are completely unfamiliar with.

It takes far more than just a lobby group and a Legislative body to create and maintain a superpower. Much much more than that.

These are the people who put the US on the science and engineering map. The hard power is also based on the industrialisation after the Civil War, when the country rose to the top in steel and coal production, and then oil production. But again, whether we are looking at science and engineering or industry, it was a small minority in the vanguard. The rest of the country was drawn from the detritus of Europe -- the castaways and misfits, the ne'er-do-wells.

With regard to soft power, it's not there any more. But rather than argue over this, let me say it was previously an adjunct to hard power. Icing on the cake, not the cake itself. The allure of the soft power was that it showed that a nation of stupidos could have a high standard of living, that you didn't need to be a genius or an oligarch to be affluent in the USA. Those days are gone.
Those days are gone? Hardly. Why is that both soft and hard power emanating from USA reaches ever greater heights if its best days are behind it? After all the industrialization, how is it that all things Internet were created, controlled and exploited by them the best of all the world?

I don't think the "discussion" is going anywhere. I am bowing out.

"A nation of stupidos" has created a unipolar world by showmanship, guile and force? How is that "spot on" despite being oxymoronic?

With respect why are you so concerned about what someone says about Americans? Does an American own you and occasionally you have to clean his rectum? You sound so much up their that i doubt it would ever have the opportunity to get dirty.

Stereotyping ANY nation like that is WRONG. That is why. Being fair and logical is important.
